FOSAMAX HAS BEEN LINKED TO OSTEONECROSIS "ONJ" BONE DEATH IN JAW Fosamax is a widely prescribed osteoporosis medicine manufactured by Merck & Co. The Food and Drug Association (FDA) recently issued an alert to health professionals about the risks of Fosamax. Fosamax has been linked to jaw bone decay (jaw death) and osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) also known as “dead jaw”. The drug is alleged to cause death of the jaw, severe infections, swelling and the loosening of teeth. Patients often require long term antibiotic therapy or surgery to remove the dying bone tissue.
